Manipur - "The Jewelled Land

Manipur is a Northeastern state of India which makes many jaws drop with its surreal beauty. The state is blessed with dense forests and rolling hills which charm the heart of every wanderer visiting here.

The history of Manipur (Kangleipak in ancient times)is reflected by archaeological research, mythology and written history.

Starting from the origin[further explanation needed] of Polo (MeiteiSagol Kangjei) in 3100 BC,[better source needed] Manipur became a princely state under British rule in 1891, the last of the independent states to be incorporated into British India. During the Second World War, Manipur was the scene of battles between Japanese and Allied forces. After the war, Maharaja Bodhachandra signed a Treaty of Accession merging the kingdom into India. It was made a union territory in 1956[6] and a full-fledged state in 1972.

On 16 September 2022, the Government of Manipur set up a 15-member committee to verify the accuracy of books written about history, culture, tradition, and geography of Manipur, to avoid the distortion of facts. Every author of the said subjects are mandated to submit their manuscripts (prior to publication) to the Director of Higher Education and University of Manipur, for verification and approval, failing which legal actions of prosecution will be taken up.
